Norton Commando down on the Farm
In May 2007 myself, wife and two young children booked a “Farm Stay” holiday in Kent, South East England. The farmer’s business was organic vegetables. We had the run of the farmland and its wonderful views. There was a typical collection of farm machinery in the yard. Then I noticed what looked like a motorcycle in the undergrowth. Upon further investigation, to my amazement, it was a Norton Commando completely surrounded by stinging nettles. Judging by the registration number and rectangular rear light it was a late 750 or early 850 machine. When I saw our host I asked him about the bike: he said he was the owner, bought it in the 1970s and had many happy riding memories. He planned to re-build it “when he got time”. I thought maybe it would be better located in one of the weather proof buildings on the farm rather than outside and open to the elements, but then everyone takes a different approach to motorcycle restoration!
